Garden Design & Landscaping in Protaras

More than a decade of luxury landscaping tailored to Protaras's specific microclimate, soil, and character.

Protaras is Ayia Napa's quieter, more family-oriented neighbour — a resort with a stronger residential and luxury-villa identity, calmer beaches, and a longer year-round season. The microclimate is essentially Ayia Napa's, but the property mix tilts toward higher-end villas and longer-stay holiday rentals rather than party-season hotel demand. Our gardens in Protaras therefore tend to be more design-led, with mature olive groves, sculptural cypress hedges, and the kind of layered Mediterranean planting that looks as good in February as it does in August. The eastern Cape Greco proximity affects climate in similar ways to Ayia Napa, but the slightly more sheltered bay positions of many Protaras properties moderate wind exposure compared to the more open Ayia Napa coastline. We treat Protaras as a long-term-relationship area; many gardens we maintain here have been with us for over a decade, and the slow maturation of their planting reflects that continuity.

Local Climate

Similar to Ayia Napa but slightly more sheltered. Hot summers, mild winters, moderate sea breeze, intense afternoon sun.

Soil Character

Sandy coastal soils with low organic matter. Drainage excellent; structured amendment essential for ornamental beds.

Why Protaras is Different

More than a decade of work in this microclimate has taught us what succeeds — and what to avoid.

01

Sandy beach-front soils with minimal organic matter — heavy compost amendment is essential at establishment.

02

Long-stay villa rentals demand year-round visual quality — plant palettes must perform in shoulder seasons, not just summer peak.

03

Eastern coast wind exposure during winter storms requires shelter planning for sensitive species.

The Cyprus Reality

What every Protaras garden is up against

Wherever you are on the island, a Protaras garden lives with the same water reality — the figures behind why local, water-wise care matters here.

≈500 mm

Cyprus averages about 500 mm of rain a year, and from June to August rainfall is almost negligible — under 5% of the annual total. A Cyprus garden is kept alive by irrigation and design, not by summer rain.

13.7%

In February 2026 Cyprus's reservoirs held just 13.7% of capacity — the lowest dam inflows since records began in 1901 — and Paphos district enforced a 30% cut in irrigation water. On the south coast, water-wise planting is no longer optional.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

About our garden services in Protaras

How does Protaras differ from Ayia Napa for gardens?

Climatically very similar, but the property mix differs. Protaras has more luxury villas and long-stay rentals, which support more design-led, mature gardens than the higher-turnover hotel context of central Ayia Napa.

Can a Protaras garden look good in winter?

Yes — we layer evergreen Mediterranean species (olive, carob, oleander, rosemary, cypress) with winter-flowering specimens and ornamental grasses for year-round structure and seasonal interest.

Do you offer year-round maintenance contracts?

Yes — most of our Protaras clients are on year-round contracts. Maintenance frequency varies seasonally (more intensive April-October, lighter November-March), but the gardens benefit from continuous attention.
