Solar garden lighting in Cyprus

Bell and Howell Solar Lights and the Alternatives for Cypriot Gardens

Searched for a familiar solar light brand and landed here? We plan, supply and install solar lighting built for Cypriot heat, salt air and long dry summers, from Paphos to Protaras.

Planned, installed and maintained by us, across Cyprus, whether you are on the island or not.

The lights arrive, and the garden still looks dark

Most people meet solar garden lighting through a television advert or a marketplace listing, and Bell and Howell is one of the names that comes up again and again. The pitch is simple: push the stakes into the ground, wait for dusk, enjoy the glow. In a small, sheltered, temperate garden that can be true enough. A Cypriot plot is a different brief altogether. Beds are wide, driveways are long, terraces sit above retaining walls, and the distance between the front gate and the pool house is measured in tens of metres rather than steps.

Then the climate goes to work. Summer surface temperatures punish small sealed battery packs, coastal plots at Coral Bay, Latchi or Limassol Marina carry salt in the air that finds every unprotected screw and seam, and thin plastic stakes lean, yellow and crack long before the LED itself fails. Owners tell us the same story: the first season was fine, the second was patchy, and by the third they were pulling half the lights out of the borders and putting the rest in the shed.

Underneath the disappointment there is usually a planning gap rather than a product fault. Nobody worked out how much light the path actually needed, where the panels would catch winter sun, which fittings should stay on all night and which only need to mark an edge. Buy a boxed set and you inherit whatever the box decided. Plan the scheme first and the fittings become a choice, not a gamble.

Each lamp carries its own panel and battery. Nothing is trenched, nothing is metered, and the switching happens by itself at dusk.

Why Not Just Order a Box

What separates these from supermarket solar stakes

A store sells the light and disappears

We install it, and we come back to maintain it. That is not a promise about the product, it is a checkable fact about how we work, and it is the one thing no box shipper can offer.

Numbers instead of adjectives

Not premium quality but IP65, Corten steel, 3000 lumens, made to order in three to four weeks. Numbers can be checked, which is exactly why they can be believed.

Honest about the battery

Batteries age. That is physics, not a defect. Ours are replaceable, spares are kept in stock, and we fit them for you.

The Lamps We Quote Here

These are the solar fittings we specify most often when someone arrives asking about a boxed set from abroad. They are chosen for Cypriot conditions, sized by the job the light has to do, and installed by our own team. Every order is confirmed on an invoice, and lighting can be fitted as part of a wider garden build or added to a garden we already maintain.

Good To Know

Asked before ordering

We do not stock or fit that range, so we cannot comment on any one model. What we can say is what we see on site: lightweight decorative stake lights sold as boxed sets tend to struggle with Cypriot summer heat, salt air near the coast and the long runs typical of villa plots. If you already own a set, keep it for seasonal decoration and let us plan the working light, the paths, steps, driveway and pool surround, with fittings specified for the location.

We start with the garden rather than the catalogue. Angelos, Marios and Pambos look at where you walk after dark, where panels will catch sun in December as well as June, and how bright each area genuinely needs to be. From there we specify solar posts, stone lamps, spotlights or wall fittings in the right output. Nothing is chosen before we have seen the plot or a full set of plans.

Every garden is calculated individually, so we do not publish figures. The first consultation is free of charge. After that visit you receive a written quotation covering the fittings, the installation and any groundwork, and an invoice is issued with each order.

Solar lighting needs no mains trenching, which usually keeps the work short. A typical path, terrace or driveway scheme is often completed within a day or two on site, though larger plots and staged garden builds take longer. We confirm a realistic window in your quotation rather than promising a date before we have seen the ground.

Yes. We build and maintain gardens across southern Cyprus, from Polis, Peyia and Tala through Limassol and Larnaca to Protaras and Ayia Napa, for private villas, resorts and developers.

Tell us about the garden, or send a few photos. We suggest positions and a lamp count, you get a clear picture of what it would take, and you decide in your own time.

Green Planet Gardening plans, installs and maintains solar garden lighting across Cyprus, rather than just supplying the lights. See the full range or ask us for a free lighting plan.
