Design-led garden lighting

Mid-Century Modern Solar Lighting for Mediterranean Villa Gardens

Low, geometric forms and warm light that suit flat roofs, long sightlines and open Mediterranean planting, powered by sun rather than buried cable.

Planned, installed and maintained by us, across Cyprus, whether you are on the island or not.

The architecture is clean. The lighting rarely is.

Mid-century modern homes in Cyprus are built around horizontal lines, large glazing and uncluttered terraces. Then the garden lighting arrives and it fights all of it: ornate lantern heads, fussy scrollwork, fittings in a finish that belongs to a different century. At night the garden reads as a collection of objects instead of a continuation of the house.

The second problem is heat and glare. Many off-the-shelf fittings throw a cold, bright beam straight into the glass, so the living room mirrors itself back at you and the view over the garden disappears after sunset. Owners end up switching half the lights off, which defeats the point of having installed them.

Then there is the practical side. Running mains cable across a finished Mediterranean garden means lifting paving, cutting through planted beds and committing to positions you may regret once the olive trees and oleander fill out. On an existing villa, that disruption is often the reason good lighting never happens at all.

Each lamp carries its own panel and battery. Nothing is trenched, nothing is metered, and the switching happens by itself at dusk.

Why Not Just Order a Box

What separates these from supermarket solar stakes

A store sells the light and disappears

We install it, and we come back to maintain it. That is not a promise about the product, it is a checkable fact about how we work, and it is the one thing no box shipper can offer.

Numbers instead of adjectives

Not premium quality but IP65, Corten steel, 3000 lumens, made to order in three to four weeks. Numbers can be checked, which is exactly why they can be believed.

Honest about the battery

Batteries age. That is physics, not a defect. Ours are replaceable, spares are kept in stock, and we fit them for you.

The Lamps We Quote Here

These are the fittings we reach for most often on mid-century projects in Cyprus: restrained shapes, warm output and no cable runs across finished surfaces. Final selection follows a site visit, because sun hours, wind exposure and sightlines differ from plot to plot.

Simple geometry works best: slim cylindrical or square posts, low bollard forms and discreet ground spots that stay below the eyeline. We keep the fitting count down and let light fall on walls, steps and planting rather than drawing attention to the hardware itself. Corten posts age into a matt rust tone that sits well against white render and stone.

Warm white is usually the better choice around terraces, seating areas and glazing, because it reduces reflection in large windows and keeps the planting looking natural. Cooler tones can make sense on a driveway or service route where legibility matters more than atmosphere. We often mix the two across a plot.

Solar fittings need no trenching for power, so terraces, gravel beds and mature planting usually stay as they are. Posts are fixed into ground sleeves or onto existing bases, and positions can be adjusted before anything is made permanent.

Every garden is calculated individually, because plot size, sun exposure, access and the number of positions all change the scope. We start with a free initial consultation on site and then prepare a written quotation for you.

Pambos handles client contact, planning and quotations. Marios leads landscaping and new build work, and Angelos looks after maintenance. We work across southern Cyprus, from Paphos to the eastern coast.
