Shop-Bought Outdoor Lights or Installed Garden Lighting in Cyprus
Many owners start with a browser tab full of department store outdoor lights, then wonder whether any of it suits a Paphos hillside or a coastal plot. Here is how the two routes compare in a Cyprus garden.
Planned, installed and maintained by us, across Cyprus, whether you are on the island or not.
Why a UK lighting range rarely matches a Cyprus garden
Shopping online for outdoor lights is easy and the photographs are persuasive. What the photographs do not show is the climate the fitting has to live in once it reaches Cyprus. Catalogue ranges from UK retailers such as John Lewis are designed around soft northern European summers, damp winters and short cable runs from a house wall. A villa garden in Paphos, Peyia or Protaras asks for something different: long months of hard sun on the housing and the panel, dust that settles on glass, and in coastal plots a salty air that finds every unsealed seam.
Then there is the garden itself. A boxed set of path lights assumes a flat lawn and a straight walkway. Cyprus plots tend to have levels, retaining walls, gravel, mature olives and a pool deck that all want lighting in different ways and at different heights. Owners often end up with a drawer of leftover spikes, a terrace that is too bright, steps that are still dark, and no sensible way to add more later without starting again.
The practical questions get overlooked too. Who fixes the post into stone rather than soft soil. How the light behaves at two in the morning rather than in the first hour after dusk. What happens after a run of grey days in January, or after the first serious wind off the sea. These are the points that decide whether outdoor lighting still looks right in its second and third year, and they are hard to judge from a product page.
Each lamp carries its own panel and battery. Nothing is trenched, nothing is metered, and the switching happens by itself at dusk.
What separates these from supermarket solar stakes
A store sells the light and disappears
We install it, and we come back to maintain it. That is not a promise about the product, it is a checkable fact about how we work, and it is the one thing no box shipper can offer.
Numbers instead of adjectives
Not premium quality but IP65, Corten steel, 3000 lumens, made to order in three to four weeks. Numbers can be checked, which is exactly why they can be believed.
Honest about the battery
Batteries age. That is physics, not a defect. Ours are replaceable, spares are kept in stock, and we fit them for you.
The solar fittings we install in Cyprus gardens are chosen for the conditions here rather than for a catalogue page. These are the ones that come up most often when owners are comparing a shop-bought set with an installed scheme.
Asked before ordering
Sometimes, and we will say honestly whether it is worth it. We look at how the fitting is sealed, how it is meant to be fixed, and whether the output suits the position you have in mind. If a fitting is not suited to a hot, dusty or coastal Cyprus garden we will tell you before any work starts rather than afterwards.
You can, and for a small courtyard it may be all you need. The difficulties usually appear with fixing into stone or gravel, with brightness that is wrong for the distance involved, and with light that fades long before dawn. An installed scheme is planned around your levels, planting and the way you actually use the garden after dark.
Every order is invoiced, and delivery figures can be included on that invoice where relevant. Pambos handles enquiries, planning and quotations, so you have one point of contact from the first conversation onwards.
Every garden is costed individually, because plot size, levels, distances and the number of positions all differ. We quote after a free first consultation on site, once we have seen what the garden actually needs.
