Searching for the best outdoor solar lights online gives you thousands of listings, star ratings from gardens nowhere near Cyprus, and photographs taken in a soft northern dusk. Nothing in that listing tells you how the fitting behaves on a limestone terrace in August, how it copes with salt in the air near the coast, or whether the panel will still charge once the olive canopy fills out.
Then the parcels arrive. Spikes that will not enter baked ground, posts that wobble in the first wind off the sea, colour temperatures that clash from one path to the next because two orders came from two different batches. Some units are bright and cold, others barely glow, and the whole run looks accidental rather than designed.
The deeper problem is placement. Even good fittings fail when they sit where the sun does not reach by midwinter, or where they throw glare straight into a dining area. Ratings usually come from gardens with different light, dust and salt conditions. In Cyprus the panel sees fierce summer sun and much shorter winter days, and coastal air is harder on fixings and seals. Output on paper matters less than where the fitting sits and how the whole run is balanced.
Aspect and shade through the year, the surfaces being lit, how the garden is used after dark, and whether the property is occupied all year or seasonally.
