Straight Answer
Solar light batteries, aging and replacement
Every solar light ever sold has a battery that ages. The difference between products is what happens then.
Batteries age, that is physics, not a defect. Heat and charge cycles slowly reduce capacity until nights get short, and Cyprus supplies plenty of both. In our range that moment costs a battery swap, the cells are replaceable, spares are kept in stock, and we fit them for you. In sealed disposable lights the same moment costs the whole lamp.
How aging actually shows itself
A tired battery does not fail suddenly. The lamp starts running out earlier in the night, first on grey weeks, then on normal ones. That slow fade is your signal, and it is also why the problem hides for months, the lamp still works, just less.
Our street lamps carry a 10Ah lithium battery in a serviceable housing. Swapping it restores the lamp to day one performance, the LEDs and panel age far more slowly than the cells.
The question to ask any solar light seller
Ask what the battery replacement costs and who does it. If the answer is that there is no replacement, you are being sold the whole lamp again in a few years, priced into a cheerful first price. It is the single most revealing question in this product category.
The honest limits
We do not promise battery lifetimes in years, usage and microclimate vary too much for that to be honest. What we can state: replacement is designed in, stocked and done by us, and the fade pattern gives you months of warning.
The serviceable battery design is easiest to see on the 3000 lumen street lamp, whose full specification is on its product page. Solar Street Lamp 3000 lm
The next questions
A fading battery shortens the night, the lamp starts strong and quits early. A dirty or shaded panel weakens the whole night evenly. If a clean panel in good sun still gives short nights, it is the battery.
On our lamps it is a serviceable part rather than a soldered one, so a confident owner could. Most clients have us do it during a normal maintenance visit, which also covers the panel clean and a check of the seals.
Green Planet Gardening plans, installs and maintains solar garden lighting across Cyprus, rather than just supplying the lights. See the full range or ask us for a free lighting plan.
