Straight Answer

Motion sensor or dusk to dawn, which mode fits which garden

It is not either or. The good lamps do both, and the choice is really about what a space is for.

Dusk to dawn suits places that should always be lit, paths, entrances, terraces, steps. Motion sensing suits places that are usually empty, driveways, car parks, access roads, where the lamp idles low and lifts to full brightness when something moves. Our larger lamps combine both, dusk to dawn at low level with motion boost on top.

What each mode really does

A dusk sensor is a light level switch, on at dusk, off at dawn, no configuration. Eight of the ten lamps in our range carry one. A motion sensor adds a presence layer, the lamp runs at a low idle and jumps to full output when movement enters its range, then settles back.

The battery arithmetic favours motion sensing wherever traffic is occasional. A lamp at idle draws a fraction of full output, so the same battery covers far more night, which is also why motion models ride out cloudy winter weeks better.

How we split a real property

On a typical villa we set constant light where feet and eyes go, the entrance, the steps, the terrace, and motion boost on the driveway and the boundary. The result reads as a calmly lit property that responds when something happens, rather than a floodlit one.

The honest limits

Motion sensors detect heat and movement, so a windy night full of moving branches can trigger them. Aiming the sensor away from vegetation fixes most of it, and we do that at installation. Also, not every lamp needs every feature, our three motion sensing models are the large driveway and street lamps, not the small path posts.

The lamps that carry both modes are the 3000 lumen street lamps and the 2800 lumen park lamp. Solar Street Lamp 3000 lm · Solar Park Lamp 2800 lm

The next questions

You leave them alone entirely. The dusk sensor runs them every night automatically, and deep discharge protection means an unusual stretch of cloud dims them rather than harming the battery. There is nothing to switch.

On the street and park lamps, yes, they ship with a remote that adjusts brightness levels and timing. We set sensible values at installation and show you the remote.

A lamp that snaps to 3000 lumens when someone enters the driveway is a genuine deterrent, and better than constant light that everyone learns to ignore. It is still a light, not an alarm, and we describe it exactly that way.
