Garden lighting, use case

Solar Garden Lights That Stay Lit Until Dawn

A garden that is dark at two in the morning is not really lit. Here is what decides whether a solar set reaches dawn, and how we specify for it.

Planned, installed and maintained by us, across Cyprus, whether you are on the island or not.

Lit at dinner, dark by midnight

Most people discover the problem by accident. You come back from a late evening out, pull into the drive, and the path lights that looked lovely at nine in the evening are either off completely or glowing so faintly that they are no help at all. The steps are dark again. The pool edge is dark again. Everything you bought the lights for has quietly stopped working while you were away from the house.

The cause is rarely the sun. Cyprus gives a solar panel more than enough to work with for most of the year. The cause is usually a battery that was sized to make a shop display look bright rather than to carry a full night, a fixture with no dusk to dawn control at all, or a panel tucked under an olive canopy or a pergola beam where it only catches a couple of useful hours. Winter nights are longer than summer nights too, so a set that just about coped in July runs out well before sunrise in January.

Then there is the siting problem nobody mentions. Lights pushed into a bed that gets watered daily, panels that collect a film of dust and sea salt, posts that lean after the first strong wind off the coast. Each of these shortens the run time a little, and together they turn a set that should reach morning into one that gives up somewhere around midnight.

Each lamp carries its own panel and battery. Nothing is trenched, nothing is metered, and the switching happens by itself at dusk.

Why Not Just Order a Box

What separates these from supermarket solar stakes

A store sells the light and disappears

We install it, and we come back to maintain it. That is not a promise about the product, it is a checkable fact about how we work, and it is the one thing no box shipper can offer.

Numbers instead of adjectives

Not premium quality but IP65, Corten steel, 3000 lumens, made to order in three to four weeks. Numbers can be checked, which is exactly why they can be believed.

Honest about the battery

Batteries age. That is physics, not a defect. Ours are replaceable, spares are kept in stock, and we fit them for you.

The Lamps We Quote Here

These are the fixtures we specify most often when the brief is a garden that still reads at four in the morning. Pambos will go through panel orientation, battery capacity and dusk to dawn behaviour with you before anything is quoted.

Good To Know

Asked before ordering

Three things working together: a battery with enough stored capacity for the longest night of your year, a panel positioned so it charges properly every day rather than for an hour or two, and a driver that dims or steps down output through the quiet hours instead of burning everything in the first three. Miss any one of them and the light fades early.

Only if it was specified for winter in the first place. December nights in Cyprus are much longer than June nights and the daily charge is shorter, so we size for the harder end of the year. If a set is chosen for summer performance alone, winter is where it disappoints.

Yes. Dusk to dawn operation and motion triggered operation suit different parts of a garden, and plenty of projects use both. Paths, steps and pool edges usually want continuous low light, while a boundary or a service area is often better on a sensor.

Every garden is different in size, layout, planting and how much of it you actually want lit after midnight, so we do not publish figures. We quote after a free first consultation on site, once we have seen the plot and know what the lighting has to do.

They need keeping clean. Dust, pollen and salt film build up on the glass and cut the daily charge, which shows up as a shorter run time at night rather than as a dimmer light. A wipe during routine garden visits is usually enough, and Angelos covers it on maintenance rounds.
