Garden lighting for stairs and levels

Step Lights for Garden Stairs and Level Changes

Most Cypriot gardens are built on slopes, so stone treads, retaining walls and sunken terraces are everywhere. We plan and install solar step lights that make every level change readable after dark, with no cabling dug through your planting.

Planned, installed and maintained by us, across Cyprus, whether you are on the island or not.

The steps you know by heart are invisible to everyone else

A villa garden in Cyprus is rarely flat. There is a run of stone steps down to the pool, a change of level between the dining terrace and the lawn, a low retaining wall that doubles as a seat. In daylight it reads perfectly. After sunset the whole garden flattens into one dark surface, and the edge of a tread looks exactly like the paving in front of it.

You learn the route, so you stop noticing. Guests do not. Neither do elderly parents, children running back from the pool, or anyone carrying plates in both hands. Owners tend to patch the problem with a portable lamp at the top of the stairs, which throws glare straight into people's eyes and leaves the treads below in deeper shadow than before.

Then there is the practical side. Running mains cable to a flight of stone steps usually means lifting treads, cutting a channel through a retaining wall, or trenching across finished planting. On an absent owner property it also means somebody has to be there for the works. The result is that step lighting keeps getting postponed to the next phase, and the next phase keeps not arriving.

Each lamp carries its own panel and battery. Nothing is trenched, nothing is metered, and the switching happens by itself at dusk.

Why Not Just Order a Box

What separates these from supermarket solar stakes

A store sells the light and disappears

We install it, and we come back to maintain it. That is not a promise about the product, it is a checkable fact about how we work, and it is the one thing no box shipper can offer.

Numbers instead of adjectives

Not premium quality but IP65, Corten steel, 3000 lumens, made to order in three to four weeks. Numbers can be checked, which is exactly why they can be believed.

Honest about the battery

Batteries age. That is physics, not a defect. Ours are replaceable, spares are kept in stock, and we fit them for you.

The Lamps We Quote Here

For stairs and level changes we work with low glare solar fittings that mark the edge rather than flood it. The aim is that your eye picks up each tread without a bright source in your field of view. Which fittings suit your garden depends on the stone, the run length and how much sun the area gets during the day, so we confirm the selection on site before anything is ordered.

Good To Know

Asked before ordering

It depends on the run. Short flights of three or four treads often read well with light at the top and bottom plus a single marker in between, while long or curving flights usually need a rhythm of low level fittings so no tread sits in shadow. We walk the steps with you at dusk where possible, because the way the stone reflects light matters as much as the number of fittings.

The panel is what needs the sun, not the fitting. Where a stairway sits under pergolas, mature olives or a north facing wall, we look for a nearby position with good exposure and site the fitting so the light still falls on the treads. If no suitable position exists, we will tell you that during the survey rather than install something that underperforms.

Solar fittings need no mains cabling, so in most cases there is no trenching, no lifting of stone treads and no channel cut through a retaining wall. Fixing method still depends on the surface, and some stone and rendered walls need care, which we assess on site.

Every garden is priced individually, because tread material, run length, access and the number of level changes all differ. We start with a free first consultation, look at the site, then put a written quotation together for you. An invoice is issued for every order.

Yes. A large part of our lighting work is added to existing gardens, including properties where the planting and hard landscaping were completed years ago. We plan around what is already there rather than asking you to open the garden up again.

We are based in Paphos and work across the south of the island, from Polis and Latchi through Limassol to Larnaca and the Famagusta resorts. Travel time is factored into planning so visits are grouped sensibly.
